Here at NiBBLe we got the chance to play one of the most challenging indee games , Cuphead. Bringing back an old run and gun, retro style to recent instalments, this game is no easy feat to finish as it has one of the most erratic enemy systems to date.

By having simple rotational aim controls, the game gives trouble-free mechanics within a basic tutorial at the beginning which already gives it a 1-up to the Souls series, but can otherwise be confusing with all the chaos of the game which can convert simple button clicking into spamming. The game requires you to have advanced dodging skills which requires various reads of enemies and situations and their timings that leads to the most challenging part of the game. With an easy-going perk system, the game gives you an edge against bosses and preceding levels, you can acquire these perks from the game’s coin currency (These coins, however, are a pain to collect). Cuphead also provides some variety with an aeroplane mode, that some bosses require, which has an extra shrinking mechanic and vertical fights.

Unfortunately, the indee game is quite hefty with a solid 10GB to download, but do not fret as there are over 50 levels with a huge variety of bosses which you can overcome through your run.

One of our favourite parts of the game is the local multiplayer that many games lack these days. Now you and your pal can plug your controllers in while you both sit on your coach and feel the need to break each other’s throats from the frustration. Friendship at its finest!

Even though this may not be the casual game you are looking for, it is one of the most rewarding games emotionally and really makes time flow as you want to break your screen. A true challenge in our eyes and we challenge you to play the game and tell us how far you came before shedding a tear.
