Sequels, sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t and sometimes developers need to learn that
after a few games, they should go back to the drawing board and reinvent the game. I’m looking at you Call of Duty franchise. But nothing against the long-standing first-person shooter. Sequels to games may be absolutely brilliant but because their predecessor “did not sell so well”, the following sequel bombs out and ends up ending the franchise there and then. But with E3 gone and release dates for upcoming sequels releasing this year with constant trailers, and since you all voted on this topic I have one thing to say …

My top 5 upcoming sequels releasing this year
5 upcoming games

JoK[ishl]er back at you again with a small milestone article for me (my 10th #yayme #nibblepayme)
with the upcoming sequels releasing this year that I cannot wait to get my hands on.

FIFA19

FIFA19

Let’s get started with what some of you may deem a boring game … well, I am a football fanatic so if you don’t like it … too bad, too sad … skip this part and read the next game. But yes EA’s annual football title is releasing and I will tell you why I am looking forward to this title more than any previous titles. THE CHAAAAAMPPPPIIIIIIOOOOOONNNNNSSS!!!! Sorry I was trying to give the illusion of the choir singing the UEFA Champions League Anthem.

Yes yes yes Nibblers, no more will we dominate the Champions Cup in Career Mode, but now we finally get to dominate the UEFA Champions League in the Career Mode … and for those … uhm … unlucky teams, the UEFA Europa League is coming as well, so you’re not left out. EA finally have the rights to use UEFA and I don’t know about you guys, but playing in the Champions Cup does not have the same feeling as if I was playing in the Champions League itself, lifting that epic trophy and basically living out my fantasy of Manchester United winning the treble again without Sir Alex Ferguson … I mean I love Jose, but there is a better chance of taking on 300 Spartans with nothing but a spoon than United winning another treble anytime soon. Now I say this as a diehard supporter, so if you don’t like it … you’re in denial.

But back to FIFA 19, with Champions League coming into full effect, and the next chapter of The Journey coming into play and rumoured to have some Champions League involvement it seems that the latest instalment from EA may be its best one yet. But till that day comes, we shall pray EA don’t pull an EA on us and mess it up.

Tomb Raider

Shadow of the Tomb Raider

Lara Croft … The Tomb Raider … probably one of the greatest gaming characters I have ever had a
chance to play. With the series being rebooted in 2013 for the previous gen consoles and being a massive hit and reinvention of the character bringing about RPG elements, Square Enix have an absolute money-maker on their hands. I just recently played the sequel to the rebooted Tomb Raider game, i.e. Rise of The Tomb Raider and I loved the game, story and entire thing from start to finish. With Shadow of the Tomb Raider being the third instalment, and promising a bigger map, more tombs to explore and RPG elements I cannot wait to see Lara back in action as I shoot, kill, stun, murder, beat, smash, climb and raid every god damn thing and tomb in that map.

The story takes place in Latin America and Lara being of sound mind and body does what she does best … sets off a Mayan apocalypse … wait hold on a second. Lara is the heroin in the game … did this chick just doom us all? I mean I already LIVED through one Mayan prophecy, you know the world is going to end in 2012 and guess what … IM STILL HERE B!CH#$!!!! Well … my body is still here … my sanity on the other hand … yeah, I lost that a loooooooooonnnnnggggg time ago. But I digress, Shadow of the Tomb Raider sounds great and I cannot wait to spend hours on it.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey

Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey

Now you guys know I am a HUGE Assassin’s Creed fan and I watched the Ubisoft E3 press conference live and when they played the Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey trailer I wept tears of pure joy. Set in Ancient Greece, 400 years before Assassin’s Creed: Origins.

The player has a choice between a male and female protagonist and can choose to fight for Athens or the mighty Spartans … GOD BLESS YOU Ubisoft! Now we’ve had Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate where we played as the brother-sister duo of Jacob and
Evie so the whole two protagonist thing may not be new … but here is something never done in any Assassin’s Creed game … we finally have the choice and options to change history. Yes, as promised, players will have the choice to select specific dialogue that will ultimately affect the outcome of
history as we know it.

I can already see it … hours upon hours of pure bliss … replaying the game over and over … exploring every option, every storyline, every little thing that will make history hours. Now Ubisoft I have a message for you, “You guys did very well with Origins and you absolutely reinvented the game and made the franchise new again. Please, please, please don’t just rinse and repeat the franchise. Keep innovating, keep creating and well keep me sane by making more Assassin’s Creed games or else I may just snap and go on a killing spree.” So you know … let’s save the world before I destroy it. Okay? Okay!

Just Cause 4
Just Cause 4

Alright, I’m going, to be honest here. The Just Cause series is a ton of fun. I started with the second and played number three and I enjoyed both, a lot. But my excitement for the fourth instalment in the series is not as high as it is for Assassin’s Creed. But that does not mean that the game sucks.

I love it … hell, it’s basically Michael Bay: The Game. Since no gameplay footage has been released, and only a cinematic trailer, the game does look to be an improvement on Just Cause 3 and if I can remember correctly, that game was tons of fun. The map was insanely huge, the story was quite epic, we had a wingsuit, the famous grapple claw and some sweet vehicles and weapons. BUT if Square Enix can do anything right is improving on a sequel game. If you want proof, I point you to the Tomb Raider and Hitman series … BOOM! MIC DROP!

So gear up people and get ready to take on another dictator, destroy all of their property, skydive and fly, shoot and steal, blow up and incinerate and be the baddest mother flipper spy the world has ever seen.

Red Dead Redemption 2

Red Dead Redemption II

Now, this is a sore spot for all the PC gamers, because unless they had an Xbox 360 or a PlayStation 3, they never knew one of the greatest Rockstar Games ever to be created, developed and played. 8 years after Red Dead Redemption we get the prequel. Yes, people, I know this list is all about gaming sequels, but this title is a sequel to the game with the story being the prequel. I don’t know if you get that, because as I wrote it down I’m seriously wondering where in the hell is my sanity.

But yes, following the infamous van der Linde gang’s Arthur Morgan, the story promises similar elements to Red Dead Redemption being the wild west, open world and just badass cowboy lifestyle. Now if Rockstar is known for anything, is their storylines and to date, Red Dead Redemption probably is the only game that has taken me the longest to complete … that is a testament to the world I lived in. I dominated the Wild West, I played both hero and villain, I ruled in poker and five finger fillet … I was John Marston and I will always say that Red Dead Redemption is one of the greatest games of all time.

Now if what I just said is not enough for you to be as hyped for this game as me … then my dear Nibblers … you’re just bat$h!# crazy!

Spider-Man

Alright, I know this game is not an upcoming sequel releasing this year, but dammit I cannot leave this out. There have been plenty of Spider-Man games, some good, some bad and some … well banging my head against a wall fun. Maybe that’s why I’m so crazy … too many wall headbanging sessions.

But truth be told this game is looking more and more like the greatest Spider-Man game that will ever be created. The game boasts a huge open world, an epic storyline and combat elements from the Batman: Arkham series and if all of that is as great as the first gameplay footage looks, then I propose possible Game of the Year contender. If you guys want to be more hyped for this game, you have to watch this YouTube video of the CONFIRMED villains that will be in this game:
Release date: 7 September 2018

Well, Nibblers, you all voted for this “Upcoming sequels releasing this year” and I hope I delivered. What do you think of this list? Do you think I left out a game? Or do you think I’m completely over hyping some of these games? Let us know what you think.

But until next time my awesome Nibblers, stay epic, stay sane, JoK[ishl]er out! (╯°□°)╯)
